Proposed Bills Offer Practical Solutions for Ticket Buyers in Texas

On March 3, 2025 two bills were introduced in the 89th Texas legislature which would provide practical solutions to challenges that ticket buyers in Texas are facing today. Texas Senator Nathan Johnson (D-Dallas) introduced SB 1820 and Representative Benjamin Bumgarner (R-Denton) introduced HB 3621. The critical items these bills introduce are: open transfer of tickets, restrictions against price caps and outlaws certain practices of speculative ticketing. These are consumer friendly measures that will benefit all ticket buyers in Texas but allowing them choice where they buy, sell and even transfer their tickets. This legislation, combined with SB 1622 which seeks “all in” pricing for tickets, will greatly simplify ticket buying in tickets for fans and eliminate some of the practices which have plagued our ticket industry. The TTSA is a strong supporter of these bills, which are both sure to face fierce opposition from Livenation Ticketmaster.
